Opportunity Summary
Reporting to the President and in collaboration with the VP Finance, IDL Ventures, and as part of the executive team, the Controller will be responsible for creating and executing strategy and leading a team.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Financial reporting
- Preparing and overseeing the timely and accurate financial reporting for the company.
- Generate financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Status of contracts completion.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision making and strategic planning.
- Monthly management of financial and job reporting.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop and manage the company’s budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted financial results.
- Provide insights and recommendations for improving financial performance.
Risk Assessment and mitigating risk
- Making sure internal controls are followed. Adding internal controls where necessary.
- Assessing each project’s financial risks.
Project Accounting
- Cost reporting
- Project stewardship reports (PPA – Project Performance Analysis)
- Project dashboards
Cash Management/Treasury
- Manage cash flow and liquidity, ensuring the availability of funds for job/operational needs.
- Weekly cash flow report and implement strategies for efficient cash handling and banking relationships.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivables.
- Tax compliance, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
Compliance and Regulation
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry practices.
- Ensure the company's financial practices comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
Technology Integration
- Leverage financial management systems and technology for efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify and implement improvements in financial reporting tools and software.
- Stay informed of advancements in financial technology.
- Lead a team of accounting professionals ensuring high engagement, development focus and retention.
- Participate in achieving the overall company goals, and other company initiatives.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of finance experience with 3+ years of accounting experience in construction or related industry preferred.
- Post-secondary Degree or diploma in Business Administration, or Finance or Accounting with Professional Accounting designation a requirement.
- Comprehensive understanding of and demonstrated ability to prepare financial reporting and budget process.
- Ability to prepare and review budget documents.
- Actively lead by example and set standards for performance and behavior; acts with integrity and professionalism, strong dedication to teamwork, and comfortable with supporting a change environment
- High degree of organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Supervisory / Management of small to medium size team preferred.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and company policies, able to educate and enforce policies.
